La 74ª edición de los premios Emmy trajo la repetición de varios ganadores, además de algunas sorpresas.
Durante la ceremonia presentada por Kenan Thompson, "Ted Lasso", de Apple TV+, ganó el premio a la mejor serie de comedia por segundo año consecutivo, "The White Lotus", de HBO Max, se llevó el premio a la mejor serie limitada y "Succession", de HBO, se hizo con el mayor galardón de la noche, el de mejor serie dramática.
Antes, Lee Jung-jae, estrella de "Squid Game" de Netflix, se convirtió en el primer actor asiático en ganar el premio de actor principal en un drama, y la cuarta persona asiática en ganar un Emmy de interpretación, mientras que Zendaya, estrella de "Euphoria" de HBO, se convirtió en la primera mujer negra en ganar el premio de actriz principal en un drama dos veces, y en la ganadora más joven de un Emmy en la historia.
Matthew Macfadyen fue premiado por su papel secundario en "Succession", por el que ya estuvo nominado en 2020, pero no consiguió la victoria. Luego, Julia Garner se llevó el premio en el papel de actriz correspondiente por la temporada final de "Ozark" de Netflix, en la que interpretó a Ruth Langmore, marcando su tercera victoria en los Emmy por el papel.
Se avanzó en la diversidad en las categorías no actorales cuando Hwang Dong-hyuk, de "Squid Game", se convirtió en el primer director asiático en ganar la categoría de serie dramática, y el primer director de la historia en ganar por una serie de habla no inglesa, y la creadora y estrella de "Abbott Elementary", Quinta Brunson, ganó como guionista de serie de comedia.
